Welcome to Carryduff Parish Roof Fund
A Church of Ireland was first established in Carryduff in the 1950’s. Services were initially held in a local barn before moving to what is now our church hall. The church building, as we know it, was built in 1964. It was designed by a well know Belfast architect, Donald A. Shanks and is unique in the Church of Ireland tradition with brightly coloured, kite shaped windows and a very unusual self-supporting, hexagonal roof. The Church has been listed by the council as a building of architectural interest primarily due to the uniqueness of the roof.
While the Church has been carefully maintained there has been no major work carried out since it was built. Over the last number of years, it has become obvious that the roof is showing signs of deterioration. Those attending services have on occasion been greeted by a bucket catching drips or wet cushions on our pews. This water ingress has been caused by cracked tiles and deteriorating roof felt. The church vestry took the decision some years ago that the roof should be replaced.
It is anticipated that the cost of replacement will be in the region of £160,000. To date, through the generosity of our congregation and the support of the local community we have raised almost £100,000, but as you can see, we still have a way to go to reach this target.
We intend to apply for a number of grants that will take us closer to the amount required.
